DIRECTOR REGION ONE (1) (LTCOL MARK D. JOHNSON)

Lieutenant Colonel Johnson was commissioned from Purdue University in December 1988 under the Marine Corps Enlisted Commissioning and Education Program (MECEP). Prior to MECEP he was an 0331 machingun section leader in Fox 2/6. Upon completion of The Basic School he reported to Ft Sill, for training as a field artillery officer.
Completing the artillery school as an Honor Graduate, his subsequent assignment to 3/10, included combat operations during Operation Desert Shield/Storm serving as a fire direction officer. During a follow-on  deployment to the Persian Gulf aboard USS Saipan with BLT 1/8, he served as a howitzer platoon commander. He lateral transferred into the
intelligence field in 1992. After completing the MAGTF Intelligence Officer Course he was assigned to G-2, 2nd MarDiv. His next assignment was in the Intelligence Directorate, HQMC, where he was the 02xx occ field sponsor and oversaw the Defense Attaché and Foreign Area Officer programs. Selected for career level school he attended the US Army Advanced Intelligence Officer Course. He was next assigned to the S2 section of the 22ndMEU. He completed two LF6F deployments aboard USS Kearsarge and USS Saipan. He participated in NEO and embassy security operations in the Congo, Sierra Leone, and Albania. Promoted to major in 1998, he was reassigned to the II MEF G-2. Nominated for joint duty, USEUCOM, Maj Johnson was assigned to the J-2 Directorate for duty as the Chief,
Expeditionary Warfare Branch, Joint Analysis Center, Molesworth, UK. During this tour he completed two deployments in support of national intelligence missions in Kosovo and Bosnia. In May 2001 he was transferred to the Navy and Marine Corps Intelligence Training Center where he served as the Director of Marine Intelligence Officer Training. Selected for LtCol he was reassigned in 2003 to 1MarDiv for duty as the Deputy G2. He deployed to OIF II in Ramadi, Iraq where he was subsequently wounded in a firefight. Selected for command and promoted to his present rank in 2004, he assumed command of 3rd Intelligence Battalion, III MEF. LtCol Johnson’s final tour of duty was with the G2, II MEF. He retired August 2007.
